Have you ever wondered what passion means?
It’s been described as, a strong desire which allows you to create, and the
energy that keeps the fire burning. When we are passionate about
something, it provides the substance of purpose. It may provide you a
feeling of importance—the feeling that you are meant to do meaningful
things in life.
Struggling to find that sense of purpose or passion is difficult for a lot of
people, not only those with ADHD. Having ADHD can be a benefit in
discovering and living out your passion.
Whether you’re creative, helpful, encouraging or working on personal
growth, you are passionate about something. It may be helpful to know, the
word enthusiasm – comes from the Greek word Entheos – which means
God within.
You may be saying, but I have no passion. The truth is your passion isn’t
missing, it’s still inside of you, waiting to be revealed. Among the traits and
abilities which lead to success, passion stands alone. Unlike skill, knowledge
or other factors—passion is innate.
If you’re living your life thinking passion is some treasure you need to find, it
can make you feel lost and confused, and possibly overwhelmed. You may
always feel stuck or like something is missing
Passion is what you feel—it is the energy you bring to something you do.
Passion is never really quenched, it is still burning bright, underneath all the
bad thinking, negative mindset, and years of conditioning by society.
One of my passions is helping people by encouraging them and helping them
uncover their passions. Another is helping people by offering
assistance—whether physical, financial or just kindness. One morning it was
simply buying breakfast for someone who obviously was down and out. The
joy I experienced after this moment, fueled me for the entire day.
Whatever you look forward to, or whatever you are desiring to learn, or
whatever you are good at, is a passion.
People who have risen to the tops of their fields all have a deep motivation
that gives them the wherewithal to work extraordinarily hard at something
even when it’s uncertain how, when, and even if they will enjoy rewards for
their efforts.
What fuels you? Is it music—playing or singing or enjoying listening. Is it
writing the perfect thank you note? Perhaps it’s creating a new recipe or
preparing your favorite go-to-dish. Do you get excited over fresh flowers in a
pretty vase, or decorating for the holidays? Or perhaps the idea of sitting
alone with a favorite book and beverage, in you reading nook, or at a park.
Maybe what gets you excited and energetic is a walk, a run, or even a
dance.
Passion, fervor, ardor, enthusiasm, and zeal, mean intense emotion which
compels you to action. Enjoying your passion is the authentic you,
regardless of opinion, or diagnoses. And this is your purpose—to be your
beautiful, passionate, authentic self.
Next month, let’s discover more about your authentic self.
